Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experience Social Work Clinicians to join the Allied Health Education and Social Work teams in the role(s) of Clinical Educator(s).
About Northern Health:
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About the Role:
The Allied Health Clinical Educator(s) - Social Work will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of evidence-based clinical education for Social Work staff across all career stages. This includes developing targeted discipline-specific and interdisciplinary training aligned with a consistent Allied Health framework. In collaboration with the Allied Health Education team and Social Work leaders, the role will ensure training is relevant, sustainable, and driven by workforce needs through ongoing consultation and analysis.
This position(s) will build capacity within the NH workforce as it relates to supervision, teaching and support through active involvement in interdisciplinary programs delivered in conjunction with grade 4 lead roles within the Allied Health Education team.
The Allied Health Clinical Educator(s) - Social Work will work closely with other members of the Allied Health Education Team and the broader AH leadership and workforce to ensure that programs are delivered in a cohesive, consistent and efficient manner and that the education and training provided meets the needs of NH learners across the career continuum. This role(s) will be supported by an internal program aimed at building capability in education and training skills and defining a career pathway for AH staff interested in pursuing a career in clinical education.
The successful applicant will have a sound foundational understanding of adult education principles, interprofessional education and facilitation skills, and experience with clinical skills training across a variety of modalities. The applicant will also demonstrate excellent communication, project management and coordination skills, and a proven commitment to working collaboratively to promote evidence-based education to learners.
The position(s) will be actively involved in social work operations, the AH education team and the broader Allied Health Division through relevant committees, research and quality improvement activities.
This role requires regular travel across sites due to the diverse requirements of the Allied Health education program and may be based at different sites as needed or directed.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Social Work theories and their applications within a public health setting.
- Clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of Legislation relevant to the healthcare setting including family Violence, Child Protection, VCAT and NDIS
- Knowledge of the Family Violence Legal Reforms including; the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment & Management (MARAM) Framework and the Information Sharing Schemes (FVISS/CISS).
- Knowledge of the Northern Health catchment including demographics.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to manage conflict and provide effective feedback.
- Familiarity with various teaching methodologies (e.g. simulation-based learning, point of care teaching, workshops & online education).
- Experience teaching and facilitating learning in the SW context
- A focus on supporting psychological safety in learning, incorporating elements to promote learners feeling included, valued, comfortable to make contributions, take risks, and ask questions.
- The ability to provide high quality reflective supervision and coaching to learners.
- Experience in facilitates small group learning experiences (virtual & in-person) that are interactive, enhance clinical reasoning and achieve learning outcomes.
- Strong skills in developing interprofessional relationships and collaborative practices, co-facilitate interprofessional education.
- Excellent communication, project management and coordination skills, and a proven commitment to working collaboratively to promote evidence-based education to learners.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of the application of adult learning principles in the design of education programs.
- Demonstrable experience in facilitating, evaluating and continuously improving education programs.
- A foundational understanding of interdisciplinary education principles, design and delivery.
