Role Status: Multiple Full-Time Ongoing & Term Vacancies Available.

Remuneration: AHP1 ($68,478 - $83,594 p.a.) / AHP2 ($88,255 - $102,240 p.a.) + 11.5% Superannuation

Role Details:

The Department for Child Protection is seeking multiple Taikurtirna Warri-apinthi Practitioners to join the Aboriginal Practice Directorate.

The role is responsible for:

Ensuring Aboriginal children and young people remain connected to their families, community, country, culture and identity.

Developing a work plan to engage and prepare family networks and identifying supports with wraparound services that may be needed.

Providing culturally appropriate and relevant information in relation to identified needs for DCP staff to contribute to prevention plans.

Developing and maintaining a lifelong support network for Aboriginal children and young people, while ensuring child safety.

Monitoring and supporting individuals' coping abilities while ensuring Aboriginal families are strengthened by advocating the importance of connections for Aboriginal children and youth.

Providing active efforts in visiting families to work and identify family placements and supports.

To Be Successful:

We are looking for a confident individual with exceptional communication skills who can establish meaningful, supportive relationships by maintaining formal and informal networks with Aboriginal people through their kinship systems.

To succeed in this role, you must identify and respond to the needs and risks to the safety, wellbeing, and development of children and young people. This will be supported by demonstrated knowledge and understanding of their development stages, vulnerability, and resilience.

You should also have an understanding into the context of child development, parenting capacity, family and environmental factors to identify the needs of an individual child or young person.

The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.

Special Conditions

Essential Qualifications: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).

To be appointed directly to the AHP2 level, successful candidates must demonstrate increased professional expertise, competence and experience to perform any standard professional task within the discipline. Candidates have also attained greater specialised knowledge within the discipline which enables them to provide professional services to client groups in circumstances requiring increasingly complex practice skills.
