More Than Tax is a dynamic, boutique cloud-based accounting firm located in Hawthorn East that offers a wide array of services to our highly esteemed SME clients in various industries; incorporating accounting, taxation and business advisory services.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Business Services Manager to join our boutique accounting firm in this newly created role. You will manage a portfolio of SME and high-net-worth clients, oversee compliance and advisory engagements, and lead a small team of accountants. You'll play a key role in delivering strategic advice, driving process improvements, and supporting the continued growth of the firm. Client Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as their trusted advisor

Identify, investigate and understand clients’ business and financial goals and propose resolutions for complex accounting issues and improve their business processes.

Provide tailored tax, accounting and business advice and solutions to meet clients' unique financial goals

Oversee year-end compliance, BAS, tax planning and advisory services

Proactively manage client portfolios and ensure timely delivery of services

Team Leadership

Supervise, mentor and review the work of junior, intermediate and senior accountants, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.

Lead regular team meetings, workflow reviews and professional development initiatives

Manage and provide support to outsourced personnel

Assist in onboarding and training new staff to maintain high team standards

Promote a supportive and accountable team culture

Workflow & Operations

Monitor job budgets, WIP and billing targets to ensure profitability

Identify internal business and process improvement opportunities through innovation and automation efficiencies and propose solutions to Directors

Coordinate and manage lodgement deadlines and compliance timetables

Liaison with ATO, other statutory bodies and stakeholders (including software providers) including audits and lodgements.

Strategy & Growth

Contribute to business development activities including client onboarding, referrals and marketing initiatives

Identify opportunities to improve client services and introduce new offerings

Support Directors with strategic planning, financial targets and firm initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

Minimum 7 years of taxation experience in a public practice

CPA or CA qualified

Proven experience in managing, mentoring and inspiring a team

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and manage competing priorities

Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax, compliance and accounting standards.

Strong expertise in Xero (XPM, Tax), MYOB, Quickbooks and BGL360.

Excellent computer and software skills (MS Excel, Word, Outlook)

Strong attention to detail, problem solving and organisational skills

Self-Driven and results oriented

Committed to continuous development and provide exceptional service to clients

Tech savvy and able to learn and adapt to new systems quickly and easily
