We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Public Affairs Advisor to join our Strategic Communications and Engagement team!

What You Will Do:

As a Public Affairs Advisor, you will be at the forefront of Council’s external communications, working across media relations, issue management, community sentiment analysis, and stakeholder engagement. You will help shape public narratives, respond to emerging issues, and foster strong relationships with media, government partners, and the community.

This is more than just a communications role; it is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on how local media and our community connects with Council.

What We Are Looking For:

Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.

Demonstrated communications capability and the ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content.

Detailed knowledge of public affairs, media communications and stakeholder engagement disciplines.

Understanding of the local government context and working environment.

Established media relationships and proficient in the use of traditional and social media platforms.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong content development capabilities.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with the public, elected members, media, management, and staff.

This is a key role that contributes to building, protecting, and promoting Council’s reputation, ensuring our voice is heard, trusted, and respected across the region.
