About the Position
Bond University is seeking an experienced Public Relations Manager to join the Bond Newsroom on a maternity leave contract. This role plays a key part in enhancing and protecting the university’s reputation through proactive media engagement and strategic communication.
As the primary media contact, you will manage enquiries, coordinate responses, and proactively pitch stories to showcase Bond’s research, achievements, and expertise. You’ll work closely with journalists, academic staff, and internal teams to ensure clear, consistent messaging and effective public communication.
Reporting to the Director of News and Public Relations, your responsibilities will include:
Managing media enquiries and maintaining strong relationships with journalists
Distributing Newsroom content to local, state, national and international media
Drafting and distributing press releases, statements, and news stories
Supporting media aspects of key events and announcements
Monitoring and reporting on media coverage and engagement trends
About the Person
The successful candidate will join a talented team of fellow communications professionals in a lakeside location on the Gold Coast, the lifestyle capital of Australia.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
A degree in PR, communications, journalism, or similar.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to build a network of contacts among internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in public relations with a skill set that includes writing news stories, press releases and social media posts that drive audience engagement. This is achieved through proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Creative Cloud.
A network of media contacts that can be called upon to bring attention to Bond University students, academics, alumni, supporters, events and achievements.
Experience in crisis communications and providing measured advice.
The ability to work independently and with others in a fast-paced, team-orientated environment. Prioritising workloads with competing demands.
Experience using Isentia, the University's media monitoring service, is preferable but not essential.
Salary details
The salary for the position commences at $93,419.65 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
