About the Role
The Safety, Quality and Risk Representative (Stage 3) will support Keolis Downer (KD) with respect to workplace health and safety and risks associated with the construction and mobilisation of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 extension to the light rail system.
The Safety, Quality and Risk Representative (Stage 3) will be responsible for the co-ordination of quality and risk activities relating to the fulfilment of KD obligations to participate and influence design outcome to provide a light rail system which is safe and accessible for passengers and KD staff in the line of their duties. As the safety representative the role will coordinate the interface between the principal contractor and Keolis Downer operations and services.
This role is a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Health and Safety Professional who wants to gain experience in light rail.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Attending Stage-3 testing and inspections with the principal contractor, sub-contractors and project stakeholders.
- Representing KD at various internal and external meetings as required and coordinate with the D&C contractor any interface arrangements that could impact the safety of passengers as well as KD’s operations and services.
- Ensuring all O&M manuals, spares, asset registers, safe working instructions, system site, as built drawings including training and familiarization are received and validated prior to completion and handover;
- Providing advice and direction relating to safety in design and installation where necessary;
- Preparing and developing all management of change documents including risk assessments.
- Assisting the Stage 3 team and the KD external works coordinator in reviewing and updating contractor safe work method statements (SWMS), activity method statements (AMS), risk registers and worker VOC’s on the KD permit to work system
- Assist with the handover report demonstrating that due diligence has been undertaken and to signify that the system can be accepted into operation; and
- Ensuring the Operational Risk Register is updated and managed in conjunction with the KD internal HSQE team.
Competencies Required
- Knowledge and experience in the application of risk management strategies and methodologies to identify and mitigate risk as it applies to health and safety.
- Work as a Rail Safety Worker Category 3 (safety critical worker)
- Minimum 1-year relevant safety experience.
- Construction experience will be advantageous.
Profile Requirements
- Cert IV in WHS or higher.
- ICAM certification will be advantageous.
- A highly self-motivated team player, with sound organisational skills;
- Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Able to identify and rectify problems and issues in a timely manner;
- Legally entitled to live and work in Australia.
As part of the recruitment processes at KD, pre-employment checks include National Police Certificate and Rail Safety Worker Pre-employment Medical. Further to this, successful candidates will be required to provide a National Police Certificate where requested throughout employment and maintain their Rail Safety Medical status. Given the nature of the position you have applied for and, in particular, the duties and responsibilities that it includes, KD considers this to be a reasonable requirement. KD will assess a candidate’s and employee’s criminal record history against the inherent requirements of the relevant position before making a determination as to their suitability or otherwise for the role.
