Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Civil/Structural Draftsperson to join our team in Melbourne, focused on rail and road-related projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in translating design concepts and technical specifications into accurate and comprehensive technical drawings and plans. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of essential transportation infrastructure projects that shape the current and future of rail and road networks across the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, and project managers to understand project requirements, design intent, and technical specifications for rail and road projects
  • Utilise advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create, modify, and refine detailed technical drawings, from Concept to IFC and As-Built
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian standards, codes, and regulations pertaining to rail and road infrastructure design and construction, including DMS regulation
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine and optimise design documentation, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate designs, resolve potential clashes, and contribute to seamless project execution
  • Review and interpret survey files and RLs to inform design documentation accurately.
  • Identify and reflect site constraints and clashes in the design drawings without needing direction from engineers .
  • Generate sections, plans, and details independently where required, without the need for preliminary sketches.
  • Proficient in 2D drafting and 3D modelling using software such as Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar tools
  • Create and maintain a drawing register and relevant filing structure
  • Maintain company drafting procedures adhering to company Information Management systems
  • Recommend and implement process improvements
  • Manage and train other drafting staff as required
  • Be willing to conduct a site investigation/inspection where required

Skills and Experience

  • Drafting Qualifications – Diploma or similar
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience covering civil and structural drafting, with particular emphasis on bridges and other transport infrastructure assets (e.g., retaining walls, culverts, overhead gantries etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and think critically to solve design problems and produce complete drawings without full input from engineering staff
  • VBA Drafting Registration (or eligibility to obtain it) will be highly regarded.
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW) (Sterling will provide full support – time and financial – for this to be obtained if not currently held)
