The Role:

The role of the Transfer Station Supervisor is a varied and exciting role that requires a high degree of team building and supervisory skills. Responsible for a number of staff, the Supervisor is responsible for getting the highest level of performance from the team.

This role will encompass a variety of responsibilities, from the development and implementation of systems and procedures that increase the efficiency of the site, to liaising with customers and contractors and ensuring the site is operating in a safe and efficient manner, at all times.

The Transfer Station Supervisor will also be responsible for planning the operations of the site, reporting incidents to the QLD Manager and ensuring the security of the site and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Transfer Station team to develop excellent working environment through team commitment and loyalty.

Sorting of recyclable materials.

General labouring.

Liaising with employees and contractors.

Ensuring the security of site, including office, bays and all plant and equipment.

Planning of shifts for casual employees ensuring an appropriate level of staffing is maintained at all times.

Responsible for the identification of unacceptable and/or illegal waste and taking appropriate action to manage the situation.

Ensure the safe and even distribution of waste in each loading bay – paying particular attention to the even distribution within each bin to ensure safe loading and pickup of full bins.

Liaise with the General Manager and Victorian State Manager to ensure the smooth operation of both tip operations and plant maintenance.

Develop and maintain a register of all rejected loads – including details of contents, load size, date reject etc.

Ensure the completion of time sheets for all staff – it is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure the time sheets are completed correctly and accurately.

The Successful Candidate will have:

Demonstrated ability to carry out daily work programs in accordance with defined schedules.

Demonstrated understanding of the operations of a Waste Transfer Station.

Basic corporate knowledge.

Basic computer skills.

Demonstrated ability to price according to company Price Schedule.

Demonstrated record keeping, cash handling and ability to process accounts and credit card payments.

High-level communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong people management and leadership skills.

Current operator’s licence or eligibility to gain licence for Backhoe (LL) and/or Excavator (LE).

Desirable Criteria

A sound general working knowledge of recycling.

Previous experience in operating and maintaining plant and equipment.

Previous Transport and Logistics experience in the waste industry is highly regarded.
