Pro-Rata Salary Range of $119,173 to $138,738k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities) plus 11.5% Superannuation + Smart Salary Packaging Benefit

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow to join our team in an identified position. The successful candidate will contribute to activities across the Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Health Program.

Our successful candidate will have a strong research background.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide a consistent level of contribution to the research activities of the projects
  • Take the lead and assist with the preparation of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and Governance submissions
  • Take the lead and assist with manuscript preparation
  • Engage, consult and maintain collaborations with Aboriginal communities, researchers and community controlled health services
  • Ensure that research being conducted is congruent with ethical guidelines for research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Effectively produce and maintain project data.
  • Regularly update study tracking tools and systems
  • Manage effective communication with internal and external study staff and key stakeholders
  • Adhere to all study protocols and participate in protocol training sessions as required
  • Adhere to safety policies and study SOPs, as outlined by The George Institute
  • Adhere to the workplace policies and procedures of study sites, as required
  • Attend study team meetings and consistently represent The George Institute and the study in a professional and positive manner when engaging with communities.
  • Remain abreast of developments in the related to the program that are relevant to the study and the Institute; providing a source of information to colleagues within the Institute
  • Actively develop and promote the desired culture of The George Institute by ensuring all interactions, documentation and communication are conducted in a manner which supports the stated mission.
  • As we are a global organisation, engage with colleagues and stakeholders in other regions relative to the responsibilities of the role, accommodating global time zones where required, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience/ Our Successful Candidate

Essential

  • Relevant health/medical qualification, including a PhD
  • Experienced and proficient researcher
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and coordination of health research projects
  • Experience in writing research papers
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills and strategic thinking
  • Experience in data interpretation, qualitative analysis and statistical skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
  • Strong focus on quality of work
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the Internet
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
  • Availability and willingness to travel.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours of work for collaboration and contact with global teams based on requirements of the position
