What is the role?

Applications are sought from candidates wishing to be considered for Business Support Officer roles in three different business areas of the AFP Learning and Development Command (LDC).

The AFP is investing in our learning and development capability to ensure it continues to be fit for purpose for today, tomorrow and into the future. This enables us to provide our people with the systems, knowledge and skills they need to perform their duties effectively and lawfully. A commitment to learning and leadership at all levels is fundamental to the success of our members and the enterprise.

LDC plays a critical role in ensuring the AFP maintains a skills and capable workforce. Business Support Officers are fundamental in providing support across all programs and projects in LDC. Areas include Recruit Training, Investigations Training, Leadership, skills maintenance, facilities management and project coordination.

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

  • Foster collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support members of the LDC faculties with administration associated with the planning, development, coordination and delivery of training programs.
  • Provide administrative support, including deploying (where practical) for regionally based programs.
  • Liaise with other areas of LDC regarding program resources and administrative processes.
  • Develop and manage contracts, budgets, invoices and financial processes associated with course delivery.
  • Utilise a variety of information and communication technology, record-keeping, information management systems, and analytical tools.
  • Continuous process review and pursue process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain currency in relevant skills through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Well developed ability to foster productive working relationships as part of a team.
  • Ability to undertake regular domestic (interstate) travel to support training programs or projects.
  • Strong administration, organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to take responsibility for complex, challenging or sensitive projects.

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

  • Experience managing contracts, budgets, invoices and financial processes.
  • Experience providing high level administrative support and advice.
  • Exercising good judgement in the face of competing/complex priorities.

Additional Information

  • This is an AFP Band Level 5
  • This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
