About Us

The City of Ballarat’s Marketing Team leads the region’s destination marketing activities. We work on a range of initiatives to impress potential visitors, build community pride, and inspire our locals to invite their friends and relatives to the region.

The Marketing Team also resources the marketing operations of the region’s Visitor Economy Partnership, Tourism Midwest Victoria. As the peak tourism body for the region, Tourism Midwest Victoria’s objective is to cultivate the Midwest Victorian region as a sustainable and thriving tourist destination.

We’re seeking an experienced marketing professional with strengths in digital platforms, strategic campaign execution, and team leadership—ideally with experience in tourism, leisure, or government sectors.

The Role:

An opportunity has arisen to lead City of Ballarat’s Marketing Team as Marketing and Communications Coordinator and play a pivotal role in promoting Ballarat and the wider Tourism Midwest Victoria region as a leading visitor destination.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports to the Executive Manager Visitor Economy and is responsible for the management of the development and implementation of proactive, high-impact and multi-channel marketing tactics and campaigns that promote Ballarat.

The position will lead the team to provide marketing services to position and amplify Ballarat as a destination to visit by leading the brand management, and development and implementation of innovative end-to-end marketing tactics and campaigns, as well as operate as a marketing advisor for other City of Ballarat business units and TMV partner councils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management: Oversee the marketing teams, driving strategic initiatives to enhance the brand and visitor experience.
  • Helping guides the marketing activity of Tourism Midwest Victoria’s partner LGAs through a Community of Practice.
  • Marketing Communications: Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies and digital experience to promote Tourism Midwest Victoria.
  • Brand Oversight: Manage the consumer brands, ensuring consistent and effective application across all platforms.

About You:

This leadership role offers the chance to develop and deliver high-impact, multi-channel marketing campaigns that drive visitation, build community pride, and grow regional tourism. You’ll lead brand strategy, guide a talented marketing team, and collaborate with partner councils through Tourism Midwest Victoria’s Community of Practice.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in a senior marketing communications role, preferably within a tourism or leisure brand context.

  • Demonstrated recent experience in the application of digital platforms and technologies to achieve consumer marketing and communication objectives.
  • Demonstrated recent experience in leading a team.
  • Experience in working in a government environment would be advantageous.
