Recruitment Revolution is excited to be working with a leading OEM of specialist equipment for the mining, water, defense, power and transport industries. Their key strength lies in large-scale energy infrastructure projects including renewable power generation, battery storage initiatives, and optimizing transmission and distribution management systems.

Due to successfully executing several large engineering projects, our client has an immediate need for a permanent Power Systems Engineer to be based Newcastle.

The right candidate will contribute significantly to designing, installing, commissioning, and optimizing grid-connected power systems and HV + LV networks.

The Power Systems Engineer will report directly to Engineering Manager.

Key Objectives:

• Assisting in preliminary power system design (Specification of switchboards, transformers and power conversion systems).
• Analysing HV and LV distribution, control, protection, metering earthing systems to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Applying standards and regulations for design and operation.
• Conducting root cause analysis and implementing solutions to address issues with existing power generation and distribution assets.
• Designing and implementing architectures such as microgrids and smart grids
• Integrating detailed designs of solar arrays and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into existing power systems.
• Collaborating with cross - functional teams, including mechanical engineers and project managers, to achieve project objectives
• Provide guidance and mentoring to the team and foster a collaborative culture to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Skill and Experience needed:

• At least 3-5 years post-graduation experience in a power industry role, whether as a consultant or power project developer/owner/operator.
• A strong understanding of electrical engineering and power systems theory will be essential for this role.
• Experience with power system modelling software, such as PSSE, PSCAD, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory, is preferred and will support your success in this role.
• Site and practical experience with power systems behavior are also advantageous, and experience with protection and primary systems design will be highly valued.
• A sound knowledge of the National Electricity Rules and the grid connection process across the NEM is required.
