Salary range between $87,656 - $98,601 per annum depending on qualifications, skills and experience plus superannuation.

Annual salary increase every year based on CPI.

Salary packaging (up to $15,899 a year, + meal/entertainment benefit of $2,650 a year).

5 weeks annual leave per year + additional leave to cover the Christmas shut down period + 17.5% leave loading

10 days Noongar Cultural Leave per annum.

5 days compassionate leave per occasion.

The role

The Lands Officer will work closely with the Lands Manager, the WKSN AC Cultural Advice Committee and the Noongar Boodja Trust to assess and on-board NLE lands within the WKSN AC footprint.

The Lands Officer will undertake GIS mapping and land data management services and provide the WKSN AC community members with land related advice.

Location

The position is based in Albany.

Hours

Full time (37.5 hours per week).

About us

The WKSN AC was formed as a result of the South West Native Title Settlement (Settlement). WKSN AC has been established to assist the Noongar peoples from the Wagyl Kaip & Southern Noongar area to protect and promote Noongar culture and to manage land and waters within their country. WKSN AC is party to one of six Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA) that comprise the Settlement.

Wagyl Kaip & Southern Noongar people are the Traditional owners of approximately 52,246 sq kms region and includes the towns of Boyup Brook, Gnowangerup, Walpole, Denmark, Mt Barker, Cranbrook, Tambellup, Katanning, Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun, Bremer Bay and Albany.

One of the cornerstones of the Settlement is the establishment of the Noongar Land Estate (NLE). The NLE comprises 320,000 hectares of land allocated as reserve or freehold tenure for cultural or economic development purposes. The WKSN AC will hold and manage a significant amount of NLE Cultural land that is intended to provide significant opportunities for the Noongar community to achieve sustainable economic, social, and cultural outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

Working with the Land Manager:

Implement and manage WKSN AC’s Land Management System (GIS and workflow data system) including onboarding WKSN AC leased land.

Maintain GIS data and produce maps and related products to facilitate decision making about potential land transfers, land use planning, Aboriginal cultural heritage matters and other land related projects.

Liaise with the WKSN AC Cultural Advice Committee and Board to assess NLE lands.

Provide timely advice to the WKSN AC community and external stakeholders regarding land matters.

Liaise with Government, private companies and not for profit organisations about land related matters.

Liaise with grant funding providers and administer the application and reporting of land management grants.

Other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

Essentials

Extensive experience in using GIS mapping systems/applications and Microsoft Office computer software.

Experience working in a land related field such as town planning, land development, Aboriginal cultural heritage management or conservation and land management.

An understanding of Western Australian land tenure.

Well-developed written and oral communications skills, including an ability to prepare reports, memos, and other documentation (including maps).

Problem solving ability and initiative.

Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to, engage effectively with the WKSN Noongar community and to liaise with government and corporate stakeholders.

Desirable

Tertiary qualifications highly regarded but not essential.

The Corporation has a preference to employ Noongar persons, in particular persons with Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar connections, however non-Noongar persons are eligible for appointment should no suitable Noongar person be available
