Position Overview
To effectively and efficiently operate Council’s specialist plant, such as a grader, in the maintenance and construction of roads and related assets. The successful candidate will carry out various duties as directed, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, standards, and Council policies.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operate plant efficiently and safely, complying with relevant laws, standards, and Council policies.
· Erect and maintain traffic control devices during construction and maintenance operations.
· Ensure all work health and safety requirements are met, including risk assessments and adherence to safe work procedures.
· Report accidents or injuries promptly, complete required paperwork, and submit to the immediate supervisor.
· Operate other items of plant as required, provided relevant accreditations are held.
· Perform laboring and traffic control duties as necessary.
· Assist in coordinating worksite activities, including leveling, supervision of contractors, and monitoring site-specific activities.
· Maintain a diary of works carried out and submit to the Overseer weekly.
· Report difficulties in carrying out assigned or cyclical works promptly to the Overseer for prompt action.
· Ensure all plant items are maintained in roadworthy condition through cyclical and daily maintenance checks.
· Report plant operation problems promptly to the Plant and Depot Coordinator for timely repairs.
· Record time sheets accurately with appropriate forms attached and submit to the Overseer on time.
· Promote effective teamwork and maintain good public and co-worker relations.
· Operate as a member of a work team, practicing sharing of work duties and multi-skilling.
Essential Criteria:
· Successful completion of Year 10 studies or equivalent.
· Relevant WorkCover or accreditation certificate for plant operation and demonstrated extensive experience.
· Ability and skill to operate and understand the capabilities of the plant item.
· Working knowledge of road maintenance, pavement construction, and earthworks operations.
· Ability to operate plant in conjunction with other equipment and traffic.
· Experience and ability to undertake manual laboring tasks.
· Work Health and Safety WorkCover General Induction Ticket (White Card).
· Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety principles.
· Desirable Criteria:
· Traffic Control Ticket (stop/slow and putting out of signs).
· Possession of a Truck Licence (where relevant to the position).
· Chainsaw ticket (level 1 – cross-cutting).
· Ability to operate other items of plant.
· Experience in leveling and set-out works.
· Experience in the supervision and monitoring of small worksites.
· Experience in the supervision of contractors.
