We are seeking a Dams Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Team within the Planning & Engineering Group.

Remuneration & Hours:

  • 35 hour working week

  • Base salary of up to $151,252 plus Superannuation (Any offer made will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate)

The Opportunity

As the Dams Engineer you will provide support, deliver and undertake works focused on Hunter Water's declared dams. The primary focus of this role will be around maintaining and improving the lifecycle and risk planning for the dams, adherence to the dam safety management system, technical advice on dam safety and compliance to the regulations

What you'll do:

  • Evaluate the safety status and performance of dams. Monitor existing risks; identify new and emerging risks; initiate in-depth evaluation of dam safety risks arising from surveillance activities
  • Support the development and maintenance of portfolio risk profiles and risk management plans
  • Periodically assess and report on dam safety compliance and monitor risk profiles in accordance with the Dam Safety Management System
  • Plan for and manage dam safety issues, alarm responses, and emergencies, together with other subject matter experts, as may be required from time to time. Participate in / coordinate emergency preparedness exercises
  • Optimise dam safety management practices using risk-based frameworks
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of technical guidelines and methodologies in the dam safety program
  • Project management of investigations and minor works including development of business cases, briefs and consultant/ contractor management

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant engineering standards, codes and guidelines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to effectively build relationships and influence others
  • Willing and able to undertake training including confined space entry and working at heights
  • Drivers Licence (Class C)
  • Construction Induction Card

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of dam and weir design, construction, operation, safety surveillance and maintenance
  • Technical engineering skill and knowledge of dam safety policy and regulatory requirements combined with site experience
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to analyse and interpret data and information and make sound judgements
  • Dam operations including emergency responses or exercises.
