About the role
The Manager WHS Compliance leads the design, development and implementation of policies and programs that support safe and healthy learning and working environments across the Department.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing WHS risk management programs, policies, and training resources.
- Preparing high-level reports and briefings for senior executive and government stakeholders.
- Monitoring and evaluating WHS performance against strategic objectives and compliance benchmarks.
- Overseeing financial and contractual performance within your business unit.
- Working collaboratively with key stakeholders and being a key escalation point for critical WHS matters and ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Building governance, communication and training frameworks that enhance WHS capability across the department.
This role is pivotal in strengthening our WHS strategy, ensuring legal compliance, and promoting a culture of safety across a large and diverse workforce.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in WHS compliance, risk management, or policy development at a senior level.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate performance data and translate insights into practical solutions.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience navigating complex issues and influencing across all levels of an organisation.
- A proven ability to manage large-scale programs, lead teams, and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, and the ability to apply them in a school and corporate setting.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
Essential requirements of the role
- Relevant qualifications in work health and safety or equivalent work history and experience
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
