About the Opportunity

WCH are seeking midwives who are keen to work within the Ngangkita Ngartu (Aboriginal Family Birthing Program). The program is a specifically designed service to meet the cultural and clinical needs for Aboriginal women and non-Aboriginal women with Aboriginal babies accessing care at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Ngangkita Ngartu provides a model of care, developed on Grandmothers Law and Birthing on Country Principles. Ngangkita Ngartu is a cultural model with a clinical partnership. Aboriginal Maternal Infant Care Practitioners/workers work in partnership with midwifery workforce to provide antenatal care, postnatal home visiting, and cultural support throughout the journey of the woman through WCHN. The role requires a blend of clinical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure while providing high-quality, empathetic care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, plan, develop and evaluate professional development activities, in conjunction with other Nurses and/or Midwives and relevant stakeholders
  • Participate in quality improvement activities that contribute to patient/client safety, risk minimisation and safe work activities within the practice setting
  • Provide ward/team leader/coordination as required

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate. OR
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
