Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation is recruiting for an event coordinator across various communities for the Children and Families Program.

Seeking energetic and creative individual for working alongside the Children and Families Program team and community members for ongoing events in six communities.

Flexible work arrangements available and negotiable working weeks.

Support for events is to be based upon a strengths-based and trauma informed approach, the principles of self-determination, and respect for Aboriginal people, communities and culture.

Work collaboratively with other local service providers, agencies and institutions to plan events and activities consistent with Waltja’s program objectives.

Work independently in sourcing supplies and accessing resources for events.

Documenting event through video, photograph, written or spoken media platforms.

Opportunity for creative events, based from community direction.

Assist Aboriginal children/youth and their families to access other support, services and resources as required, and to actively engage in community and culture.

Assist Aboriginal families to actively engage in community and culture, and to generate culturally appropriate local strategies to address the problems of vulnerable and at-risk children and families.

Engage Aboriginal people from each community wherever possible as mentors, advisers, and co-workers to assist with Waltja’s service delivery, and support skills development of community members related to the program objectives.

Complete and provide appropriate and up-to-date documentation related to community visits, travel plans, data reporting, and client/community support provided or requested.

A commitment to comply with all Waltja Policy and Procedures and Code of Conduct.

A commitment to Aboriginal self-determination, demonstrated ability to relate sensitively and effectively with First Nations people and demonstrated awareness of the issues affecting Aboriginal children/young people and their families in central Australia.

Based in Alice springs. Willingness to travel to remote communities up to 4 nights per week. Casual role of 2 weeks travel with 2 weeks off.

Salary package:
SCHADS Award plus 2% Grade 4 (depending upon qualifications and experience): the current rate $42.35/hr, casual loading at 25%

Superannuation of 13% for non-smokers.
Travel: $75/night for remote travel
Equipment: All digital/computer/phone equipment provided as needed; Swag supplied.

Annual leave: 4 weeks pro-rata
Personal Leave: 10 days pro rata
Ceremonial Leave: Up to 8 weeks leave without pay
Compassionate: 3 days paid leave; 3 weeks leave without pay for immediate family.

Flexible working hours & time in lieu of arrangements instead of overtime. Salary Packaging options available.

Travel Reimbursement after 6 months - $950 p/a

Camping Allowance after 3 months - $350 p/a

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORKER: SELECTION CRITERIA:
Please address these criteria if you are selected for interview.
Essential:
1. A commitment to Aboriginal self-determination, demonstrated ability
to relate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people and
demonstrated awareness of the issues affecting Aboriginal
children/young people and their families in central Australia.
2. Previous experience working in central Australian community roles, including community consultation, service delivery, art management, and evaluation.
3. Previous experience working in event management or art management
4. Previous experience working successfully in a dynamic team environment
and managing a diverse workload accordingly; proven experience of
successful time management in a complex work environment.
5. Demonstrated capacity for strategic decision-making, and initiative to
make appropriate decisions when required.
6. Current NT Drivers License or commitment to transfer current Drivers
License to NT immediately upon appointment.
7. Current NT Working with Children and Vulnerable Persons (Ochre
Card) authorization, or the capacity to acquire this within 6 weeks of
provisional appointment.
8. Willingness to undertake a Police Check (for criminal history) –
required within 6 weeks of provisional appointment.

Desirable:
1. Experience working in or with remote central Australian Aboriginal
communities.
2. Experience driving 4WD vehicles and manual vehicles.
3. Perviously experience in event management

4. Energetic and creative personality for good ideas
