The aim of the Victims Assistance Program (VAP) is to assist victims by providing an accessible service where victims are listened to, informed, and empowered in their pathway to recovery.

The objectives of the VAP are to:

provide quality services that support the needs of victims so they can recover and thrive,

assist and advocate on behalf of victims navigating the criminal justice system to enable victims to be informed and empowered and,

establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery of seamless and accessible services to victims of crime.

Key responsibilities include:

Undertake intake assessments and provide varying levels of support to victims of crime with low, medium and/or high needs.

Identify, assess, and manage family violence risk.

Provide timely and culturally appropriate support and/or case management to victims. This is in accordance with best practice as well as the VAP practice manual and guidelines.

Manage and maintain a high-volume case load.

Provide ongoing advocacy, support, information, and referrals to victims of crime to ensure they are fully aware of justice processes and broader supports available.

5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading on 4 of the 5 weeks.

Selection Criteria:

To excel in this role, you will need:

A relevant qualification such as a Bachelor of Social Work, Behavioural Science or Diploma of Community Services with relevant 2 years’ experience.

Experience in implementing best practice approaches to engage victims, including those with multiple and complex needs, including experience in delivering a trauma informed policies and strength-based practices when working with victims.

Experience in providing flexible and responsive service delivery to victims with low, medium and/or high needs, including the use of appropriate assessment methods to determine level of risk, needs, intervention and engagement.

Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills.
