About the role

Blastcon Australia is seeking an expression of interest for experienced Opencut Shotfirers and Bench Assistants to join our dynamic team in Townsville, Queensland. This is a full-time opportunity to contribute to our growing operations, where your expertise in drill and blast will be essential. Based in North Queensland, these roles are either DIDO or FIFO, where rosters patterns will vary.

What you'll be doing

Supervise and coordinate the drill and blast process, ensuring safe and efficient operations

Prepare and execute blasting plans, working closely with the mining team

Oversee design, QAQC & environmental parameters

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures

Maintain accurate records and provide detailed reporting on all drilling and blasting activities

Assist in the training and development of junior team members

Collaborate with the wider mining crew to optimise productivity and operational excellence

What we're looking for

Proven experience as an Opencut Shotfirer or Bench Assistant in the mining industry

As a Shotfirer, you will have a minimum of 5 years recent experience in Quarry, Construction or Hard Rock mining

Surveying, design experience and/or a drone pilot licence would be highly preferred

As a Bench Assistant, you will have a minimum of 12 months recent experience On Bench roles with On Bench experience

Strong understanding of drill and blast operations, including planning, execution and safety protocols

Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate & work within a team environment

Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and a proactive approach to risk management

Relevant industry qualifications, including a current unrestricted QLD Shotfirers License, QSEC (Queensland Security Explosive Clearance) & a current manual Drivers Licence

Ability to complete & pass a full medical, including a D&A screen

Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
