About the Role

As a Senior Project Engineer within Whelans Group, you'll actively monitor works on-site, ensure thorough documentation, and assist in planning all activities in accordance with Whelans Group's management systems and VicRoads specifications. Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll be a cornerstone in ensuring the successful execution of complex civil projects.

This is a fulltime, fixed term position, based in South East Melbourne. Key Responsibilities

Cost Control: Oversee production rates, forecast budgets, and mitigate cost overruns.

Commercial Management: Approve subcontractor claims, liaise with the Commercial team, and monitor costs against the project program.

Procurement: Lead procurement meetings, complete scopes of work, and manage subcontractor relationships.

Construction Oversight: Assess construction methodologies, monitor progress, and provide summaries for monthly project reports.

Safety Compliance: Ensure SWMS, permits, and inspections adhere to Whelans Group standards.

Traffic and Environmental Management: Develop traffic staging plans and enforce environmental controls.

Quality Control: Lead regular quality meetings, close NCRs, and maintain checklist compliance.

Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and foster a positive, "can-do" culture within the team.

Key Selection Criteria

Relevant construction related qualifications including tertiary degrees in engineering

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with civil pavement experience essential

Passion for people and their safety

Demonstrated communication skills – verbal and written

High level decision making and problem-solving skills

Onboarding Requirements

Pre-Employment Medical Check.

Drug and Alcohol Test.

Police Check (less than 12 months old)
