Our Southern Downs Feedlot, 30km from Warwick, is seeking an experienced stockperson who is keen to be involved in all facets of a feedlot's operation, with a particular focus on the animal husbandry activities.

The practical side of the role encompasses – inductions, health checks, treatments, mustering, pen moves and exit drafting of the feedlotting cattle. In addition, the operation runs a herd of breeders that are managed by the livestock team – weaner handling, processing calves and assisting with calving will form part of the role as well.

The successful applicant must have the following skills and experience:

· Min. 2 years’ experience in a feedlot environment/handling cattle

· Prior experience/training in low stress stockhandling

· Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and treating ailments in cattle

· Efficient operation in tasks and clear thinking under high pressure/time sensitive activities

· Solution focused on any issues/problems that arise

· Sound computer, written and numeracy skills

· Good communication skills

· Can-do attitude and energy in completing tasks

· Being clean, tidy, punctual and reliable is essential

· HR Licence & Gun Licence beneficial

· Maintenance experience beneficial

· Experience with operating various types of plant and machinery beneficial

· Learning to mix feed and feeding-out is also a requirement of this role for weekend coverage

Weekend work is required on a roster basis. Or a 10/4 roster is available.

No horses are used in the feedlot. Motorbikes/quads are used on the property and pens are walked.
