St John of God Geelong Hospital St John of God Hospital Geelong is a 253 bed hospital and is recognised as the leading provider of private health care in the Barwon and South-Western region. The hospital provides a range of services including an emergency department, day surgery, medical, surgical and maternity services, along with a 24 hour critical care unit and Cath Lab services.
Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital
You will act as a responsible and effective team member and will assist in the overall clinical management of the ward. As an ANUM, you will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of care given by junior staff, as well as deputising for and assists the Nursing Unit Manager.
Our Oncology Centre is 15 Chair Day Oncology Centre, comprising Oncology, Haematology and medical patients, which brings together clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with cancer treatment. Our centre operates Monday through to Friday, 7am to 7pm. We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of professional and multidisciplinary care with compassion and expertise.
The Position
Monitors staff levels against budget/target levels related to number of bed days, occupancy and patient acuity. Adjusts staffing levels in consultation with the Unit Manager and/or Coordinator according to changes in levels.
Provide leadership and direction to team in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager and act as a role model and resource person.
Responsible for assisting the Nurse Unit Manager in following issues pertaining to human resources within the department and will assume full responsibility in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager.
Maintains and promotes harmonious interpersonal relationships and effective team work between staff, patient, relative, doctors and ancillary staff.
Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment.
Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.
Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an OHS risk.
Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements.
Assess education needs at a ward level and assist caregivers to maintain a high level of clinical nursing skills by providing on shift support and structured education sessions.
Demonstrates progress towards the achievement of goals and personal and professional growth.
You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and at least 2 years post graduate experience in Oncology including completion of chemotherapy administration modules 1 and 2. Previous experience in a clinical managerial role or experience being in charge of an acute ward will be highly regarded.
To succeed you will have delegation, planning, organisational and motivational skills, be committed to on-going education and self-directed learning, and effectively communicate and educate patients, family and staff. Previous experience in an Oncology/haematology setting will be essential to this position.
Post graduate certificates in Oncology / Haematology or Palliative care or Management is desirable but not essential.

We can offer you
Salary: $107,721 to $111,330 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation
Permanent Part time positions, working up to 36 hours a fortnight.
