2026 Ophthalmology Fellow
Location: Footscray/Sunshine

About the role:
The Western Health Ophthalmology Unit is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Fellow for a 6 or 12 month fixed term contract to join our team in providing evidence based best practice in 2026.
The successful applicant will join an established team providing services to one of the fastest growing regions in Australia with a projected population growth of 33% over the next 15 years.
Western Health has undergone a major redevelopment which has seen the expansion of its core services across all campuses. The Unit provides a 24-hour service with a Registrar and a Consultant on-call at Footscray Hospital with an emergency paediatric service at the Sunshine campus. The unit is support by a dedicated Nurse Liaison to assist with the Hospital of all elective lists.
Key responsibilities:
Work under the supervision and support of the Head of Unit or Receiving Consultant to further develop general clinical and decision-making skills
Perform unit duties as delegated by the Unit Head or Receiving Consultant in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures and relevant legislation
Ensure quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plans
Provide day to day clinical management of patients and ensure attendance at ward rounds
Provide supervision for the clinical activities of the junior medical staff on the unit, according to the level of experience of the individual
About you:
- Have a primary medical qualification MBBS or equivalent
- Hold current AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
- Have relevant clinical experience in area of discipline
- Are committed to ongoing CPD as well as teaching and supervision of Junior medical staff
