This is an exciting opportunity to support Aboriginal girls and young women in years 7 to 12 on their learning and development pathways towards achieving their goals and living healthy, safe, resilient, thriving, purposeful and culturally rich lives. The role will suit applicants seeking full time or school hours.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
Plan, coordinate, implement, promote and deliver Djookian Program activities at Ballajura Community College, consistent with the program design, aims and objectives and funding contracts.
Organise and deliver tailored individual and group programs for Aboriginal girls and young women that support and encourage program participants to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their health, wellbeing, education, cultural identity and personal development.
Provide activities and strategies that enhance consistent school attendance, school retention, school achievement and attainment.
Provide one-on-one mentoring, workshops and life skills sessions, which empower and encourage girls to make positive, healthy choices and enhance their health, wellbeing and future pathways.
Support and supervision of Program Officer to deliver the program in line with organisational policies and procedures
Undertake consistent data collection and maintain comprehensive program data; produce and maintain program records and produce and contribute to program reports, as required.
Selection Criteria
To be eligible for this role, you must Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, as permitted under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) and be able to demonstrate:
Qualification in education, youth work, community services or a related field of work and/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with Aboriginal and other vulnerable girls and young women
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of Aboriginal young women and their families and experience in applying that knowledge to the delivery of culturally safe services and activities
Mentoring and facilitation skills and the ability to identify and/or create diverse activities, engagement strategies and programs to benefit girls and young women
The ability to work collaboratively with school stakeholders and service providers who can support program participants
Experience managing staff and providing leadership, support and supervision
Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate, comprehensive program records
