A full-time, permanent career opportunity for an Animal Science Graduate or similarly skilled person to join the Genetics team of Cefn Genetics Pty Ltd, in Clifton, Queensland, Australia.

You will work under supervision of the Genetics Manager in key areas of the Genetics Department with regards to; Data collection, technical office administration and assisting to implement future breeding direction of Cefn Genetics.

The successful applicant will enter a comprehensive in-house training program designed around your current experience. Training will include aspects of ultrasound scanning, lineal program operation and genetic marker technology. Concurrently you will receive hands-on experience in all aspects of pig husbandry on Cefn’s Nucleus and commercial farms.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the management of the companies AI Laboratory.

Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suit of programs- at least; Excel, Word, Power Point, Access.

Be an integral member of the ultra-sound scanning and data collection at the Nucleus farm.

Be available for all future data collection relating to genetic evaluation, including but not limited to ultra-sound imaging and Genomic tissue collection and data analysis.

Involved in and present data to senior company representatives and company consultants in regards to the genetic direction and advancement of the genetic resource.

Reporting directly to the Genetics Manager, the successful applicant will be involved with the genetics program of Australia’s most advanced pig breeding company. A variety of experiences awaits you ranging from involvement with the Artificial Insemination Laboratory and weekly ultra-sound and performance testing of Nucleus pigs, right through to computer-based analysis of Estimated Breeding Values and Genomic evaluation. CEFN works closely with Neogen Australia to continue the establishment of a reference population of the most advanced and progressive pig genetics you can directly be involved in.

An attractive remuneration package is offered in return for the services of an enthusiastic, computer literate, team player. Previous experience in pig production is an advantage, but not essential.
