A dynamic NSW Government Department is seeking a Media Officer to support the delivery of strategic and responsive media and communications activity that keeps customers informed and helps maintain the organisation’s public reputation.
About the Role:
As a Media Officer, you will:
- Assist in the development and release of media statements, ensuring proper approvals and accurate messaging.
- Support the coordination of public events and senior leadership appearances by preparing talking points, briefings, and supporting materials.
- Monitor media coverage to help identify potential risks and opportunities for public engagement.
- Prepare briefing notes and summaries for internal stakeholders and the Minister’s office, providing insight into current issues.
- Liaise with internal business partners and, under direction, with Ministerial offices to ensure alignment on media responses and messaging.
- Support the creation and continuous improvement of public affairs procedures and policies.
- Contribute to the implementation of media and communications strategies across the department's portfolio.
About You:
You’ll bring:
- Experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs—ideally in a government or high-profile organisation.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to tailor content for various platforms and audiences.
- An understanding of the media landscape and the ability to navigate emerging issues with professionalism.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and willingness to respond to fast-moving or sensitive issues.
Key Challenges:
- Managing media deadlines and unpredictable issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensuring accuracy and consistency in media responses while working across various stakeholders.
- Building strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners across government.
