Our client, based in Laverton North, is seeking a safety-focused, technically capable Rod Mill Operator to join their high-performing team in an ongoing capacity.

About the Role

As a Rod Mill Operator, you'll be a key part of the rolling and finishing process, ensuring the production of high-quality steel products in a safe and efficient environment. You'll rotate across several operational areas, operating and maintaining advanced machinery and systems critical to the production line.

This role offers a dynamic and hands-on environment with opportunities to develop broad technical skills and contribute to continuous operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities

You will be trained and allocated across various operational roles, including:

• Forklift Operations - Safely operate a 16-tonne forklift to transport and stack finished steel coils.
• Coil Former Operator - Manage coil forming operations, monitor cooling conveyors, and ensure safety compliance.
• Tagging/Tying Machine Operator - Operate tagging systems and ensure accurate labelling, sizing, and processing of coils.
• Laboratory Operator - Conduct quality inspections in line with Australian and internal standards.
• Roll & Guide Operator - Assemble, maintain, and service mill stand equipment and guides.
• Main Pulpit Operator - Control the reheat furnace, mill equipment, cooling systems, and process water systems.
• Roughing Operator (Assistant Roller) - Monitor mill stands and guide equipment to maintain smooth product flow from furnace to finishing line.

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience in manufacturing, steel production, or heavy industry preferred
• Valid Forklift Licence (essential)
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational discipline
• Technically minded, with confidence using industrial machinery and systems
• Able to follow standard operating procedures and contribute to shift handovers
• Willingness to take initiative, mentor others, and uphold quality standards
