Your new role
As the Property and Leasing Officer, you will play a key role in administering the Council's leases and licences across commercial, residential, and land assets. This position involves end-to-end coordination of leasing processes, including negotiations, rental reviews, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. You will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and contribute to the strategic management of the Council's landholdings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing Council's leases and licences while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Negotiating lease terms, rental reviews, and renewals with stakeholders.
- Maintaining accurate records in the lease register and assisting with budget management.
- Providing property advice and support to staff, community groups, and external partners.
- Developing policies, procedures, and business cases related to property management.
- Preparing reports and recommendations for Council and the Executive Leadership Team.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualifications in property, real estate, or a related field, or substantial relevant experience.
- At least 1-3 years of property leasing experience, ideally within a local government or complex stakeholder environment.
- Strong understanding of lease and licence agreements, including legal compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to build effective relationships.
- Exceptional analytical, written, and communication skills for reporting and policy development.
- Financial acumen for managing budgets and lease income profiles.
- A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Local government experience is essential.
