Organisational Environment
UQ Residences has been established as a controlled entity of the University of Queensland to operate all accommodation owned by the University, offering best-practice student-resident care and well-being that will set a benchmark for university student housing. UQ Residences offers a range of accommodation at St Lucia & Gatton, from on-campus houses, Halls of Residence, brand new purpose-built student accommodation, and existing residential student accommodation. Integration with other services on campus provides a seamless experience for students and will help them to adjust to university life. UQ Residences substantially widens the accommodation choices available to UQ students.
DUTIES
• Support the delivery of maintenance, including preventative and reactive maintenance.
• Assist with planning and co-ordinating installations and refurbishments.
• Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards.
• Ensure all staff and customer maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner.
• Completing minor repair work, which includes tasks like repairing doors, locks, door frames and handles as well as replacing light bulbs, basic non-electrical repair work to appliances and equipment.
• Installation of new fixtures and furniture, including furniture assembly
• Tiling, grouting, plaster patching
• Performing basic plumbing tasks, which includes unclogging drains as well as fixing leaking taps and toilets.
• Assist in the organization of rubbish removal.
• Take inventory of maintenance supplies and notify the Facilities Supervisor of low or depleted supplies.
• Ensuring that all maintenance equipment is in good working order.
• Maintain grounds and common areas to ensure they are operational, safe and clean for customers.
• Receive deliveries of tools, equipment and supplies and transfer them to the appropriate areas.
• Basic computer skills – emails, maintenance log management, input details in existing spreadsheets
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• The position will work across UQ Res sites on University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, and will report to UQ Res’ Facilities Supervisor.
Selection Criteria
ESSENTIAL
• Sound knowledge of basic plumbing and carpentry
• Proven general maintenance experience
• The ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools, as well as cleaning equipment
• Thorough understanding of current WHS compliance and rules
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Effective communication skills
• Basic computer skills
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Driver’s License – current and clean
• Working with Children Blue Card
DESIRABLE
• Trade qualification – Carpenter, plumber, electrician, etc
• Health and safety qualifications
This role is a fulltime position – 5 days per week on campus at St Lucia.
