Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Junior Network Engineer to join our client’s team. In this hands-on role, you will be instrumental in the assurance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of their dynamic network, which utilizes a mix of cutting-edge technologies such as PON, mmWave wireless, and IP/MPLS. You will monitor network performance, manage incidents, and assist with technical escalations while working closely with the Network Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve network incidents, coordinating with 3rd party vendors when necessary.
- Plan and implement changes to minimize service disruptions, peer reviewing proposals from fellow engineers.
- Manage network infrastructure, including Cisco, Dell, MikroTik, and Fortinet devices, ensuring optimal network performance.
- Perform proactive performance and capacity monitoring, utilizing both Linux and Microsoft platforms.
- Communicate effectively with vendors to address complex network issues, providing escalation support to the Customer Team.
- Identify redundancy improvement opportunities and assist in onboarding new sites or devices to the network.
- Provide after-hours support for network incidents and contribute to knowledge management efforts.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years in a network operations or engineering role, preferably within a Service Provider environment.
- In-depth understanding of Cisco and MikroTik configurations and incident management.
- Experience in planning and implementing upgrades in production networks.
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including protocols like BGP and ISIS, along with telecommunications standards.
- Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities, analytical skills, and excellent customer service acumen.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
- Relevant certifications (CCNA/CCNP/JNCIS/JNCIP) would be advantageous.
- You must be able to work on a roster covering evening shifts and some Saturdays.
- The right to work in Australia on a permanent basis.
