About the Opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the team at CaFHS as an Aboriginal Cultural Child and Family Support Consultant, where you will be responsible for:
Key Responsibilities:
- Working within a supportive team environment to deliver child-focused and family-centred services.
- Providing responsive, flexible, home and community-based support to Aboriginal families with children aged 0–5 years.
- Supporting the health, development, and well-being of Aboriginal children and their families.
- Offering culturally appropriate parenting guidance tailored to the needs of each family.
- Assisting families to engage and connect with health services within CaFHS and across the wider community.
- Providing Aboriginal cultural consultancy and advice to colleagues to strengthen culturally safe practices.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures including Aboriginal history, kinship systems and family structures, spirituality/religion, values and beliefs, behavioural expectations and family and community obligations and how this may create access barriers.
- Proven ability to relate to and be accepted by Aboriginal families of diverse backgrounds and adopt a non-judgemental approach.
- Proven ability to communicate well with, and gain the confidence and cooperation of, Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal persons whilst maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Experience in successfully working with Aboriginal families (infants, children, and parents, including fathers) with complex issues.
- Proven experience of developing connections with Aboriginal communities and identifying and addressing their needs in relation to the use of health services.
