About the Role
We are seeking Canteen Site Supervisors & Operators to manage and operate school canteens across Adelaide.
These roles involve leading daily canteen operations, overseeing food preparation and cooking, serving students, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
As a Canteen Supervisor, you will take on a leadership role, managing and training staff to create a positive and efficient work environment.
As a Canteen Operator, you will be responsible for food service and hygiene and will ensure the smooth daily operation of the canteen.
Both roles play an integral part in supporting students and school staff with nutritious meals while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Canteen Operations & Food Service
- Oversee daily operations of the school canteen
- Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals and snacks
- Ensure all food is prepared and stored hygienically, following health and safety guidelines
- Serve students, staff, and school visitors with friendly and efficient customer service
- Maintain food safety and quality control standards
Team Management & Supervision (For Site Supervisors)
- Lead, train, and develop a high-performing canteen team
- Foster a positive and supportive team culture
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth and efficient service
Stock Control & Ordering
- Manage ordering, receiving, and storing stock to minimize waste and control costs
- Conduct regular stock checks and ensure canteen supplies are always available
- Work within budgets and monitor food costs
Hygiene & Safety Compliance
- Maintain a clean and organized canteen environment at all times
- Follow strict food safety and hygiene regulations
- Ensure all staff adhere to workplace safety protocols
Cash Handling & Administration
- Process cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately
- Perform end-of-day banking and reconciliation
- Keep accurate records of sales, inventory, and compliance checks
Who We’re Looking For
- Experience in food service or hospitality is preferred but not essential – we value attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm over experience
- Leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships within the school community
- Food safety knowledge and willingness to obtain a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (if not already held)
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures and maintain high standards
- A positive and caring attitude towards providing great food and creating a welcoming atmosphere for students
- Reliability and transport – a valid Driver’s License and own vehicle are required
- Clearances and certifications – a Working with Children Check and RRHAN-EC (or willingness to obtain)
