About Balonne Shire:

The Balonne Shire is located along the beautiful Balonne River, just five hours' drive west of Brisbane on the QLD-NSW border. Balonne Shire Council has a dedicated team of 110+ staff and population of 4,500 people who live in the surrounding towns of St George, Thallon, Dirranbandi, Bollon, Nindigully, Mungindi and Hebel.

About the Position:

The Waste Coordinator is responsible for waste services, ensuring environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance. The role coordinates cost-effective waste planning, education, facilities, and services while leading policy, contractors, education, collection and analysis of data, programs leading to a circular economy, and best practice aligned with regional strategies.

About you:

A diploma or degree in environmental science or management, civil or environmental engineering or in an associated discipline relevant to the role

Ability to project-plan and deliver projects on time and within budget through contract management or via in-house staff.

Expertise in managing environmental impacts and contamination

Experience in project planning and contract management

Strong analytical skills, defining and resolving problems, exercising judgement, and ensuring cost effective solutions.

What we offer:

Stream A – Level 4 - $76,599 - $81,081 per annum

Locality Allowance $1,945 per annum.

Optional 19 day month

5 weeks Annual Leave with 17.5% loading per annum

15 days Sick Leave per annum.

Council offers employees the ability to salary sacrifice some expenses such as rent through a salary packaging arrangement

Superannuation – Council Contribution 13.50% applicable on commencement of employment. Contributions at the rate of 6% (employee) are compulsory after 12 months employment. Personal contributions are able to be salary sacrificed
