About the role
We are seeking an experienced AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) Counsellor to join our dynamic team at The Hive Counselling in Hobart, Tasmania. This full-time (or part time) role will see you providing high-quality, evidence-based counselling and support to clients (adults and youth) seeking assistance with a range of substance abuse or other addictive behaviors.
Clinical Service Delivery
Demonstrate excellent clinical skills in assessment and therapeutic interventions.
Deliver one-on-one and group counselling sessions to support clients through their recovery journey.
Work with adults and youth within the criminal justice system.
Work with clients to develop, implement and review individual treatment goals based on the client’s identified needs.
Demonstrate an understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with suicide interventions.
Work competently with complex comorbid clients and refer to appropriate external services where required.
Prioritise workloads and conflicting tasks and manage deadlines.
Work positively both as part of a multidisciplinary team and on an independent basis.
Document client information and maintain client files and statistics.
Participate in regular supervision and professional development to continuously improve your practice.
Selection Criteria for Appointment into Role
Substantial experience (minimum 3 years) working as an AOD Counsellor or in a similar role.
Experience in working with adults and young people with mental health comorbidities.
Experience in working with clients in the criminal justice system.
Sound knowledge and application of contemporary models / best practice in therapeutic interventions for addictive behaviours.
Demonstrated understanding and practice of trauma informed care.
Ability to develop and maintain effective linkages with external service providers / stakeholders, to ensure appropriate referrals and coordinated service delivery.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Ability to work autonomously and be self-directed in the role.
Computer literacy, including MS office, internet, and email.
A current Tasmanian driver’s licence.
