The Role

As a Family Relationship Counsellor, you will provide counselling and support to children, individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties or separation. Working within a child-focused and trauma-informed framework, you assist clients in navigating challenges, strengthening family connections, and prioritising the best interests of the child.

The Family Relationship Counsellor will have the following key responsibilities:

Provide strength-based, child-focused counselling to individuals, children, and families.

Work collaboratively with the Program Manager to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Apply knowledge of family dynamics, child development, and domestic and family violence.

Facilitate group sessions and provide referrals as needed.

Maintain accurate client records using the Penelope database.

Build strong relationships with internal and external service providers

This position is funded on a fixed-term opportunity until 30 June 2026.

What you need to bring

Essential:

• Tertiary qualifications in Counselling OR tertiary qualifications in Social Work/ Psychology with substantial counselling experience
• Ability to use Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel) and other technology to fulfil requirements of the role
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check.
• Valid Driver’s Licence
• Ability to do some intra-state travel intra-state when required

Desirable:

• Counselling experience with couples
• Counselling experience with children
• Group work experience
• Experience using Penelope electronic client management system
• Experience in the community services sector and/or not-for-profit sector
