About us
The Sheriff is a statutory officer appointed pursuant to the Sheriff's Act 1978 on the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The Sheriff is responsible for administering the Juries Act 1927 and the Sheriff's Act 1978 which requires the provision of emergency services to the courts, in-court support, court precinct security, and prisoner security services. The Sheriff is also responsible for the service and execution of civil and criminal processes in South Australia.
Participating courts of the Authority are the Supreme Court, District Court, Environment, Resources and Development Court, Youth Court, Magistrates Court, and the Coroner's Court.
About the role
The Senior Sheriffs Officer support the Operations Supervisors and Operations Managers in the coordination of a multi-skilled work group by providing leadership, building a cohesive team environment, and fostering an environment of continuous development for Sheriff's Officers. Senior Sheriff's Officers ensure the needs of all court users are met with efficiency and professionalism while providing a safe and inclusive environment, with the vision to exemplify community expectations and standards within our court precincts.
Contribute to the effective operation of the South Australian Prisoner Movement & In-Court Management contract for the Courts Administration Authority.
Ensure the effective administration and supervision of a team of multi-skilled Sheriff's Officers to provide an effective and high-level support service to all court users.
Contribute to the development of Sheriff's Officers by coordinating or conducting structured training.
Requirements
To be a successful applicant, you will have:
Experience in a supervisory or leadership position
Effective oral and written communication skills
Conflict resolution and negotiation abilities
Special Conditions
Multiple Full-time positions - one Ongoing position and one 12 month contract with possibility of extension.
Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act, 1993. Terms and Conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act, 2009.
May be required to work in alternate locations at the discretion of the Sheriff or due to the requirements of the courts.
This role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to employment with CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry. WWCC's can be obtained through the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit.
Appointment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
Renumeration:
OPS3 ($67,589 - $72,033 per annum)
