Executive contracts of up to 4 years may be offered.
Two vacancies are available, one ECO3 in Alice Springs and one ECO2 in Tennant Creek.
The Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet’s purpose is to deliver coordinated policy and priority reform, regional leadership, and high-quality support to Executive Government.
Currently the Department is recruiting a Senior Executive Director, Southern and a Regional Executive Director, Barkly. Applicants will have the opportunity to nominate their preferred role or have their application assessed against both positions. Offers of employment will be made based on the selection panel’s assessment of the applicant’s level of experience and suitability to the role.
As the Regional Executive Director, Barkly, your primary objective is to provide regional leadership and coordination for the Barkly region, across and beyond the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS).
Your key responsibilities include driving the coordination and implementation of the Northern Territory Government’s (NTG) priorities in the Barkly region with a focus on rebuilding the economy, reducing crime and restoring the Territory lifestyle. This includes developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances, leading the development of innovative service delivery and policy implementation solutions to foster economic growth and improve outcomes for Territorians.
As the Senior Executive Director, Southern, your primary objective is to provide strong regional leadership and coordination for the Central Australia and Barkly Regions, across and beyond the NTPS.
Your key responsibilities include driving high level coordination and implementation of the NTG’s priorities in the Central Australia and Barkly regions, with a focus on rebuilding the economy, reducing crime and restoring the Territory lifestyle. This includes providing advice to NTG Chief Executive Officers on strategic issues and service delivery with the Central Australia and Barkly regions.
Both roles represent the interests of the Northern Territory Government and collaborate with the Emergency Recovery Unit to coordinate emergency recovery activities in the region.
To be successful, you require demonstrated experience in regional economic development and strategic leadership, supported by a combination of relevant tertiary qualifications and executive experience. Proven cultural competence and high-level collaborative and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at executive and ministerial levels is essential.
If you reside outside the Territory, this is a great time to consider relocating to one of the Northern Territory’s regional towns:
Central Australia – Alice Springs

Alice Springs (or Mparntwe in Arrernte language) is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory, with a population of approximately 33,000 people. The town is halfway between Darwin and Adelaide, about 1,500 km each away. It is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and is a great place for you to experience the regions natural wonders, including Uluru, the Larapinta Trail, the MacDonnell Ranges, Ormiston Gorge, Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and Kings Canyon. Well-maintained, sealed highways provide the most direct routes between the Northern Territory from cities in South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.
Barkly – Tennant Creek

Located between Alice Springs and Katherine, Tennant Creek is the heart of the Barkly region and is synonymous with the cattle industry. It is also the centre of a resurgent mining industry. The Traditional Owners of the area surrounding Tennant Creek are the Warumungu people, and their culture is very much alive and well. Tennant Creek is home to over 3,000 people and has a real outback town flavour centred around one main street lined with trees and filled with locally owned stores.
