Position Summary
The Workplace Trainer plays a key role in ensuring that all production staff are trained to perform their roles safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with safety, food safety and quality standards. This role supports the day-to-day operations by delivering hands-on training, assisting with rostering to meet production requirements, and actively promoting workplace health and safety on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Competency Development
Deliver hands-on training for new and existing production staff, covering:
Food safety and hygiene practices
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Equipment operation and cleaning
Allergen and contamination control procedures
Conduct competency assessments and provide refresher training as required.
Collaborate with supervisors and QA to identify skills gaps and training needs.
Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with HACCP, BRC, SQF, or other relevant food safety standards.
Write and modify work instructions to reflect safe work practices.
Liaise with HR to ensure induction requirements are covered for new employees.
Update training database to reflect current status of training and to ensure training modules are reviewed and updated.
Rostering Support
Support the preparation and adjustment of staff rosters in alignment with production schedules.
Coordinate with Supervisors and Shift Managers to fill roster gaps due to absenteeism or changing demand.
Ensure with Shift Managers appropriate skill mix on each shift to meet operational and food safety requirements.
Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
Reinforce safe work practices during training sessions and day-to-day operations.
Support incident and near-miss reporting.
Participate in WHS initiatives such as safety walks, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
Report and help mitigate any hazards related to machinery, processes, or environment.
Key Skills & Experience
Experience in a food manufacturing environment is essential.
Proven ability to train or mentor team members on the job.
Familiarity with food safety systems (HACCP, GMP, allergen controls).
Solid understanding of WHS principles and practices in a manufacturing setting.
Experience with rostering or workforce planning is advantageous.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.
Basic computer literacy (MS Office, time & attendance systems, etc.).
Ability to write clear and concise work instructions.
Qualifications
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or willingness to obtain (desirable).
Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (preferred).
WHS certifications (e.g. First Aid, Manual Handling) highly regarded.
Working Conditions
Based primarily on the production floor with some administrative tasks.
Requires adherence to strict hygiene and PPE standards.
Shift-based work may be required, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
