The Role
We’re looking for a high-performing Communications Specialist to join a busy and collaborative External Communications team within a growing Federal Government agency.

This role will suit a strategic thinker with excellent writing skills, who is confident in translating complex information into clear, audience-appropriate content. You’ll enjoy working across a wide range of projects and be an advocate for plain English, accessibility, and best practice communication principles.

This is an initial 12-month position and is likely to lead to a permanent opportunity.

Key duties

• Coordinate, produce and evaluate communications plans to support agency objectives.
• Develop key messages and clear content tailored to diverse audiences.
• Proofread publications and content to ensure consistency with brand and style guidelines.
• Create communication materials for web, social media, and eDM channels.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including business areas, designers, and the Media and Internal Communications teams.
• Manage the release of communications materials in coordination with the Brand and Channels team.
• Provide trusted communication advice to business areas and build strong working relationships.
• Identify and manage (or escalate) communications risks.

About You
To thrive in this role, you will bring:

• Previous experience managing external communications in a Government setting (ideal)
• Experience working with large and complex pieces of information to create consumable, educational content for the public
• Experience with accessibility and readability
