We are seeking Civil Engineers to join our friendly and respectful team. You’ll undertake assessments and provide expert technical advice across a wide range of disciplines, including civil design, flooding, stormwater, roads, telecommunication and electrical utilities, water, sewer, solid waste, geotechnical, and operational works (detailed design) with support from Senior Engineers and Team Leaders. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, the development industry, and government partners to influence the City’s infrastructure and development.

If you have a background in civil design or assessment, and a passion for delivering positive outcomes, we want you to join our team. This is an opportunity to grow professionally, expand your skills across multiple engineering areas, and drive positive change across the City.

About the team:

City Development is responsible for the management and assessment of development applications, developer contributions, planning appeals, research, and the provision of expert planning, building, and technical advice.

Within City Development, the Engineering and Landscape Assessment (E&LA) Business Unit is responsible for the assessment of operational work applications (detailed designs) and for providing specialist advice on engineering and landscape matters in the context of development applications. E&LA works closely with colleagues in planning, infrastructure, and asset management to ensure well-informed decision-making.

The E&LA Business Unit provides excellent opportunities to collaborate with industry professionals on development applications and to contribute to shaping the City’s future through expert technical assessments and advice.

About your new role:

You’ll be part of a pivotal phase in the Gold Coast’s development, where your expertise will play a crucial role in shaping the region’s future. In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to influence the City’s infrastructure and contribute to Council, State, and private development projects.

As a civil engineer, you’ll assess development applications (MCU, ROL, and OPW) from a wholistic engineering perspective, and drive great outcomes for the city. You’ll be empowered to consider our standards and policies and contribute to innovative solutions that deliver real value to the City.

Working closely with a wide range of internal stakeholders and development industry and state government partners, you’ll have the chance to make a lasting difference. Your key responsibilities will include:

Undertaking wholistic engineering assessments across key disciplines, including water supply, sewerage, stormwater, solid waste, flooding, roads, and geotechnical engineering.

Providing technical guidance and strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders, influencing critical decisions.

Building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, driving positive outcomes for the City and its residents.

Shaping the future of engineering practices by contributing to the development and enhancement of City guidelines, policies, and best practices.

This is an opportunity to grow professionally while delivering meaningful work. You will receive ongoing training and mentorship from experienced professionals, enabling you to expand your multi-disciplinary skills in diverse areas such as stormwater management, geotechnical engineering, and more. We actively encourage site inspections to help you see the real-world impact of your work and to continuously refine and improve our processes. We are looking for motivated engineers who thrive in dynamic environments and are eager to lead the way in modernising City Development. If you are driven by innovation and want to be part of shaping a new way of working, we want to hear from you.

In keeping with the City’s commitment to flexible working, the City is willing to work with people who have commitments outside of work and negotiating a flexible work arrangement. We have jobs which need doing, and we are open to trying new ways of getting the work done!
