Senior Policy Officer – Hospitality and Racing
Exciting and challenging opportunity to work with Liquor & Gaming NSW within the Policy & Reform Team
Clerk Grade 9/10 with starting salary range of $125,693 - $138,510 pa plus superannuation and annual leave loading
Ongoing and potential temporary full-time roles available based in Sydney, NSW – Hybrid working arrangements may be available within business operational needs
About Hospitality & Racing
We are at the pointy end of industry supervision for the liquor, gaming, wagering, casino, registered club and racing sectors in NSW. We’re enabling vibrant and dynamic hospitality and racing environments that are safe and responsible, and our regulatory efforts are evidenced-informed, coordinated, and targeted to where the risks are greatest.

About the Role
As a Senior Policy Officer, you'll be at the forefront of policy development, coordinating and leading efforts to create meaningful solutions that influence decision-making at all levels. You’ll take on a broad range of responsibilities to shape the future of policy across our organisation. This role is ideal for a seasoned policy expert ready to make a tangible difference.
You will be responsible for:
Dive into complex issues, identify trends and risks, and develop evidence-based solutions to address challenges affecting government and agency priorities.
Offer high-level guidance to stakeholders, ensuring policies are interpreted and implemented effectively, aligning with broader agency and government goals.
Develop strategies to assess risks, track progress, and ensure desired outcomes align with organisational and government objectives.
Oversee the creation of clear reports, correspondence, and briefs that communicate policy issues and recommendations to inform agency and government decisions.
Mentor and guide policy officers as needed, ensuring their work meets governance standards while delivering key policy projects and reforms.
To be successful you will have:
Extensive knowledge of policy development, legislation processes, and government machinery, including the Cabinet and legislative frameworks.
Proven ability to identify and develop solutions for complex policy issues using data-driven insights.
Experience in leading consultations, negotiations, and building strong relationships to inform policy decisions.
Experience in supervising and mentoring a high-performing policy team, ensuring successful project delivery and the development of future leaders.

Essential requirements
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.
Appointment and ongoing assignment are subject to satisfactorily meeting pre-employment and ongoing probity screening to meet the integrity standards set out in section 14 of the Gaming and Liquor Administration Act 2007.
