Job location
Our Corporate Office is located at Thomas Embling Hospital just 15 minutes north of the city. Due to our announced expansion across all Directorates, we have a need for experienced like-minded professionals to join our team to support our growing services. Our Directorates includes Thomas Embling Hospital, Prison Operations and our Community Directorate with highly skilled disciplines including Nursing, Lived Experience, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychologists and Social Work. We have an outstanding L&D and discipline Educator co-hort that continually upskill our already skilled and supportive team.
About the Role:
The Senior Workplace Relations Partner will provide sound and timely workplace relations advice to Managers, coach and partner P&C Business Partners with their directorate portfolios and manage a full range of workplace relations issues. The Senior Workplace Relations Partner will work closely with the Head of Workplace Relations Health & Safety to support case management of workplace and industrial relations matters across Forensicare. The Senior Workplace Relations Partner will also drive policy development in key P&C functions. A priority for this role is to ensure fair and consistent application of policies and procedures, promoting a positive culture. The position will also participate in and lead organisational change projects or other P&C initiatives.
Duties:
Industrial Relations
- Provide industrial relations advice to the organisation to ensure legislative compliance.
Workplace Relations
- Ensure a person centred approach to all case management, balancing process with wellbeing for all concerned.
- Coach and support managers to address performance and conduct issues, and lead investigations and disciplinary processes where required.
- Coach and support managers on investigations into allegations of unfair treatment, discrimination, bullying and harassment and provide advice to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
- Maintain a disciplined case management approach, ensuring timely and accurate updates to relevant systems and records as matters progress.
Policies and Procedures & Organisational Development
- Develop and review P&C policies, procedures and guidelines to support the implementation of terms and conditions of employment across Forensicare as directed by the Workplace Relations Manager.
- Develop resources such as toolkits / support materials to improve management capability relating to workplace relations issues.
About You:
- Experience in the health industry would be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in a workplace relations role
- Proven expertise in legislative interpretation, applying regulations and the ability to interpret multiple policies and procedures.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate in business/legal written form.
- Demonstrated expertise in research and analysis and its application in the development of internal policy.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
- Significant experience in providing high level strategic advice to senior managers to develop practical workplace solutions.
What you need:
- A tertiary qualification in human resources, industrial relations, or employment law.

Our story
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.
We provide forensic mental health services for people:
with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system
at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others
referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.
Forensicare’s primary focus is the provision of clinical services within a recovery framework. These services include the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients, prisoners and clients.
