The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) leads the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA’s economy, community and environment.

About the opportunity

There is currently one (1) permanent – full time position available for immediate filling.

We are seeking a strategic and experienced leader to join DPIRD as the Director of Agriculture Resource Management and Assessment. This senior leadership position plays a key role in supporting the administration of the Soil and Land Conversation Act 1945, and shaping policies and strategies that drive the sustainable growth of WA’s agriculture and food sectors.

Reporting to the Soil and Land Conservation Commissioner, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of world-class scientific, monitoring and assessment programs that inform land use decisions and address land degradation risks across the state. You will provide high-level advice to government and senior executives on environmental and agricultural resource management, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and community needs. The position also oversees branch operations, including staff leadership, resource planning, and budget management.

This is a pivotal opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to influence the future of sustainable agriculture in WA and to deliver impactful programs that enhance the State’s natural resource base.

We are looking for individuals with:

Extensive knowledge and experience in leading and managing agriculture resource management and assessment.

Demonstrated experience in strategic analysis and planning, policy development and implementation.

Highly developed interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

Experience in leading, developing and managing teams in a values driven environment.

Equity and Diversity

At DPIRD we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and are an equal opportunity employer. We value and strongly encourage people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people, women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to apply for positions within our agency.
