About us
Mirabel is a children's charity that believes every child deserves a childhood and our mission is to break the destructive cycle of addiction. We achieve this through a wide range of programs for children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental drug use, from recreational activities & camps to therapeutic groups and educational assistance. We also provide crisis support & parenting assistance for kinship carers faced with the responsibility of raising the children. Our vision is that every child has a childhood filled with love, hope and belonging!
About the role
In this role, your duties as a Child & Youth Support Worker will include but not be limited to:
co-facilitating thoughtful and evidence-based Therapeutic Children’s Groups and Therapeutic Teens Groups (various locations throughout Newcastle 4.30-6.30pm, 1-2 nights per week)
providing recreational activities, camps, referral and follow-up for vulnerable children and youth (These involve some weekend work and overnight stays - approx. one weekend per quarter which may include some travel to Victoria).
providing individual youth support to at-risk young people
participating in/contributing to regular debriefing with the Child & Youth team
interacting with the children’s kinship carers as required
reporting any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
Full Australian working rights essential (we cannot provide sponsorship at this time)
Tertiary Qualifications in Health, Social Sciences, Education or other relevant fields
Min. 5+ years service provision experience with children and families
Proven knowledge of child protection processes, the education system and how drug issues affect families
Ability to build/maintain effective working relationships with internal & external stakeholders.
Computer literacy (especially MS Outlook/Word) and ability to learn Salesforce database.
Australian drivers license required.
Working with Children Check and Police Check required before commencement.
