SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator. In preparation for these changes, we have an opportunity for an experienced leader within our People and Corporate Services directorate.
An exciting ongoing opportunity has arisen for a Principal Procurement Officer to join the SafeWork NSW Procurement team reporting to the Director People and Corporate Services.
About you
To be successful in this role, Principal Procurement Officer will demonstrate:
- excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to manage a team, work individually, collaborate with peers and key stakeholders, seek targeted feedback and respond to changing priorities
- in depth understanding of procurement and contract management gained through a minimum of 5 years' experience in procurement (ideally including NSW Government), contract management or a related field to ensure transparency and value-for-money outcomes
- high-level organisational skills and sound knowledge and experience with Microsoft applications
- exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
About the role
The Principal Procurement Officer is an experienced individual playing a key role in providing leadership and direction across the end to end procurement process. This will include increasing the maturity of the SafeWork NSW Procurement Team and upskilling SafeWork NSW staff who will be involved in procurement activity on behalf of SafeWork NSW.
Responsibilities will include:
- Development and implementation of an internal SafeWork NSW procurement capability uplift program to all staff expected to be involved in procurement on behalf of the organisation
- Provision of expert advice to the SafeWork NSW procurement team in relation to NSW Government policies and procedures, with information targeted toward activities relevant to procurement undertaken by SafeWork NSW
- Work closely with the SafeWork NSW procurement team to develop and implement easy to use systems and tools that enable compliant procurement activities within SafeWork NSW.
- Develop, lead and execute sourcing strategies to optimize value for money outcomes and meet stakeholder needs and expectations
- Lead the design and implementation of effective metrics and reporting to continually monitor and assess the performance of individual procurement arrangements and the benefits realised for the commercial function
- Provide expert, strategic advice to key stakeholders on all aspects of procurement to encourage innovative practices and support the delivery of business and policy directions
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to meet business needs, enhance stakeholder engagement, and challenge and motivate providers to optimise service outcomes
- Manage cross-functional working groups to deliver best value for money in sourcing activities while adhering to Government processes, procedures, decision making (briefing papers, change boards & reports etc).

Essential requirements
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or industry skills and experience are essential.
