Apply your knowledge and experience in policy development and circular economies to support a sustainable future in the Northern Territory.
The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) was established with a clear vision that the Northern Territory’s natural assets are managed sustainably for the benefit of all. The Department leads a strategic land resource assessment program that underpins land use planning, economic development, improved land management and conservation initiatives.
Positioned within DLPE, the Circular Economy directorate sits in the Environment Division of the Department and is responsible for leading, developing and implementing environmental policies, programs, legislation and initiatives under the NT Circular Economy Strategy. The directorate works collaboratively across government, local council and industry to deliver the NT’s contribution to the National Waste Policy Action Plan.
As a Principal Policy Officer your primary objective is to support the activities of the circular economy directorate through developing and implementing policies, programs and initiatives.
Your key responsibilities include leading and undertaking research, analysis and evaluation of a wide range of policy and legislation-related issues, contemporary practice and emerging trends that impact environmental management in the Northern Territory, focusing on frameworks to identify and manage waste impacts, and transition to a circular economy.
In addition, you will develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with the NT EPA, government agencies and other stakeholders at local, and national levels.
To be successful, you require demonstrated experience in developing and implementing high level policies, programs and initiatives as it relates to natural resource management, with the ability to lead and support a small team.

Enjoy an enviable lifestyle and work-life balance, explore stunning landscapes, and enjoy spectacular sunsets, lightning displays and the tropical climate. Experience a rich multicultural society and community spirit that makes Darwin an easy place to live, work and make new friends. Relocation assistance may be available to the successful applicant.
