About the role In today's contested information environment, autonomous AI agents represent a powerful tool for both detecting and responding to information operations (IO). With social media as their primary vector, foreign influence operations and disinformation campaigns can shape public discourse, destabilise regions of strategic importance, and undermine trust in democratic institutions. This research examines how autonomous AI agents can be used to counter these information operations, particularly in Australia's near abroad. The UTS Behavioral Data Science lab has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the team to contribute to research and development on autonomous AI agents for counter-offensive information operations. The position may be filled at Level A (Postdoctoral Research Associate), Level B (Postdoctoral Research Fellow), or Level C (Senior Research Fellow) depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities. This position is supervised by A/Prof Marian-Andrei Rizoiu About you As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will have a background in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing, with expertise in generative AI, reinforcement learning, and multi-agent systems. Experience with social media analysis, online behaviour modelling, and information operations is highly desirable. You will also have a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Social Science, or a closely related field (all levels of appointment). Remuneration
Base Salary Range: $92,761 to $112,977 pa (Level A) $123,389 to $146,038 pa (Level B) $149,995 to $172,257 pa (Level C) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a 2 -year fixed-term basis.
