About Mawarnkarra Health Service (MHS)
Mawarnkarra (MHS) is the largest primary health care provider providing direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Roebourne area. MHS provides the families of Roebourne with a fully functional and accredited Clinic that treats approximately 3,000 people per year.
Delivering quality medical services to improve the physical, spiritual, cultural, social and emotional wellbeing for families. The Position
We are looking for a Social Emotional Well-Being Support Worker to provide support to Mawarnkarra Health Service clients and our Programs team, to improve their knowledge of healthy lifestyle behaviors and influence a positive change in behavior on an individual and group level. The Requirements
The ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when talking to people and their families.
Knowledge and experience in risk taking behaviors and how to influence a change in behavior at a group and individual level.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Developed oral and interpersonal communications skills.
Ability to develop program materials and confidence to present activities to large groups
Ability to identify and negotiate complex issues with clients.
Ability to use computer and data entry systems.
Ability to identify situations where a more senior staff member is required for assistance.
Capacity to liaise with and develop meaningful relationships with Aboriginal people in Roebourne and surrounding areas.
Understanding of cultural factors and ability to work with cultural sensitivity when working together with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients.
The ability to work independently in your community, and with your team at Mawarnkarra Health Service.
Excellent listening and relationship building skills.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, initiative, good judgment and extreme reliability.
Must have a non-judgmental attitude regardless of a clients needs.
Be approachable, positive and respectful.
Reside locally and have extensive local knowledge about the community.
Have demonstrated skills to communicate culturally and appropriately with community members.
Local language skills are advantageous.
Build strong relationship with local organisations.
Respect confidentiality and build trust.
Manage potential conflicts of interest and if required seek assistance to do so.
Commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, evidence-based research and quality assurance.
Other requirements
Local knowledge of the Pilbara area and communities
Experience working/living in indigenous communities
Previous SEWB work experience in a remote area
Current Western Australian drivers license
COVID-19 vaccinated
Consent to undergo a WA Working With Children Check and a National Police Clearance
Current CPR certificate
Able to pass regular and random drug and alcohol testing
Attend and participate in the professional development program and relevant external seminars and conferences, as approved.
Remuneration Benefits include:
Base Salary $68,250 - $100,662 p/a pro rata
11.5% Superannuation
Allowances on top of annual salary
Housing allowance (subject to eligibility)
Ability to work on a Full-Time, Part-Time or Casual basis
