Job location
Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne city centre. Due to our announced expansion, we have a need for experienced like-minded professionals to join our team. Thomas Embling Hospital is a secure Mental Health, currently 134 bed, hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation, and continuing care programs. With planned expansion commencing 2024 with significant increase in access to care, we will have a dedicated Women’s service and an additional medium secure men’s facility. About the Role:
The Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical psychological expertise to the inpatient unit and undertakes the required responsibilities as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. In addition to this the Senior Psychologist is responsible for the supervision and training of other Psychologists or staff within a program, and will have duties that extend beyond a single ward or program
Duties:
- Provides an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient issues to other clinicians.
- Provides specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
- Provides individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
- Contributes to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provides discipline-specific contributions to clinical practice and to program development.
- Participates in the training and supervision of psychology students and staff of other disciplines where appropriate.
About You:
- At least five years experience as a psychologist.
- Previous working experience in a mental health facility or a forensic mental health service.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Extensive knowledge of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally disordered clients in the forensic mental health setting.
- Expertise in clinical forensic psychology including forensic assessments (i.e., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders and/or forensic patients.
What you need:
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Psychologists’ Registration Board of Victoria.
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.

Our story
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.
We provide forensic mental health services for people:
with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system
at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others
referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.
